Kelty Mantra 7 Tent Review

I recently returner from a camping trip in Yosemite using this tent for the first time. Putting up the tent the first time wasn’t too tough, but it took about 30 minutes (taking my time).

You will need a lot of room on one side of the tent (at least 20 feet) to slide these humongous gold poles through the tent sleeves. The tent itself is pretty nice. There is HEAPS of room on the inside and we got this tent specifically so we could put our son on the other side since he can be an abusive sleeper, but we didn’t end up using the divider.

The positives of this tent are large sleeping space, tall enough to stand in (I’m 6’2″), good ventilation, setup wasn’t too bad, 3-season tent with good rainfly. The bad? Well, it would have been nice to have some type of privacy without the rainfly being on. The screens on the front are huge and you can see right through them.

The negatives: Pushing the tent poles through the sleeves was kinda tough as the material wanted to grab onto the poles. Just takes a little more time and a helper would make the process easier. The floor material seemed a little thin and it got me worried when I brought our suitcase in there. The floor looked nicely sealed against the elements though. We didn’t have the tent in the rain, so I can’t tell you how it performed…although it started to rain just as I was packing the tent away in the back of the car.

Summary: My recommendation

The vestibule on this tent is large and you can pretty much set a seat or two within it. With the rainfly on, it makes the tent much larger, so plan on having a large campsite to put this tent in place. Yes, it’s a large tent…and that’s what you are looking for! If I was to purchase again, I would buy this tent again.
